Ferry disabled by thruster trouble
The "Moldefjord", serving the route between Molde and Vestnes, was unable to dock at Vestnes on May 24, 2018, at 3.35 p.m. after a thruster failed and the ship could not carry out proper manoevers due to strong NW wind. The ferry returned to Molde, arriving there at 5 p.m. for troubleshooting. Norwegian report with photo: https://www.rbnett.no/nyheter/2018/05/24/Ferjekaos-etter-thrustersvikt-16764628.ece
Near collision on Moldefjord
The Norwegian Maritime Directorate was investigating an incident in the morning of June 30, 2015, when the "Moldefjord" had to spin 360 degrees around to avoid a collision with the freighter "Torvang" which did not give way. It was tried to make contact with the crew on board the freighter with UHF/VHF and with the ferry whistle, but without success. The ferry had no chance as to turn hard to starboard to avoid a collision. Despite the unexpected turn the ferry on the way from Molde to Vestnes was not delayed. After the arrival the master reported the case.
SAR operation after man jumped over board
On Apr 25 at 2 a.m. a passenger jumped over the trapdoor of the "Moldefjord" and jumped over board at Vestnes. The master of the ferry saw the whole thing through the observation camera at the trap door and the first thing he did was to turn off the propeller before alerting the police, who summoned an ambulance and divers from Ålesund. The ferry was only a couple of meters from the shore at that time. The SAR operation was called off after a wet track was found on the asphalt and several witnesses had observed a man in wet clothes on the quayside.
