Container ship to be repaired after grounding
Based on an initial survey assessment, the 'MOL Charisma' requires repairs of its grounding damage and is unable to continue its intended voyage. The vessel was now set to berth in Vung Tau to offload the cargo for its onward shipment on other vessels. All affected cargo will be placed on alternative connecting services from the Port of Cai Mep to their intended destinations. As of July 15, the ship remained moored in pos. 10° 13.25' B 107° 3.94' E.
Grounding off Vung Tau
On July 5 at 6 p.m. LT the 'Mol Charisma' ran aground after leaving Cai Mep-Vung Tau, about 180 nautical miles south of Vung Tau. She was refloated sabout 10 hours later and later proceeded back to the Vung Tau anchorage where she moored in pos. 10° 13.03' N 107° 3.71' E on July 8 at 1.35 p.m. The ship was en route from Vung Tau to Singapore.
Container ship headed to Singapore after fire
The 'MOL Charisma' was expected to proceed to Singapore with an ETA at the port's anchorage as of Sep 13, 6 p.m. as the ship owner was unable to arrange salvor and fire Experts in either Colombo, Sri Lanka, or at Indian ports, Hapag-Lloyd said on Sep 10. The company currently working on alternative arrangements to accommodate cargo originally intended for the voyage of the 'MOL Charisma' which had suffered a fire in cargo hold 5 on Sep 1 about 250 miles east of Sri Lanka. The crew brought the blaze under control, and the vessel diverted to Colombo for an inspection.
