Vessel inspected after sailing on dangerous course
On Jany 1, 2020 at 06:20 a.m., the CROSS Gris-Nez detected the erratic route of the 'Moezelborg' close to a sandbank 14 nautical miles Southwest of Boulogne in the Pas-de-Calais traffic separation scheme. After diverting a part of the traffic to avoid a collision with other ships, the CROSS managed to get in contact with the 'Moezelborg' in order to resume a safe route. The operations center of the maritime prefecture at Cherbourg, in liaison with the CROSS, decided as a precaution to escort the bulk carrier by the patrol vessel 'Cormorant' of the French Navy in an area where it could be inspected by a boarding team at 10.20 a.m. The team noted that the crew and its captain were able to ensure the safe conduct of their vessel, and at 11:15 a.m., the 'Moezelborg' resumed its voyage from Setubal to Finland. However, an offense report was to be drawn up by the CROSS following the dangerous maneuver in the TSS.
