Fire on barge in Maasbracht
On Nov 20 at 12.47 a.m. a fire broke out during welding works aboard the "Missouri" which was docked at a yard at the Industry Way in Maasbracht. It broke out during maintenance works was tackled with two engines of the fire rescue Limburg. The fire that raged in the engine was caused by a yard worker who was engaged in cutting operations next to the engine ofthe ship. The fire expanded into the engine room where a chest with flags and tarpaulins catches fire and resulted in the development of lots of smoke and high temperature. The fire department had a lot of trouble due to the high temperature in the engine room and a called a third engine with a platform to get better access in addition to the regular gangway. The hull was cooled from the quayside as there was a tank with 1700 liters of diesel in the engine room. The fire rescue fought the fire with foam and it was finally put out at 2.30 p.m. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2_nw2-U2u0 Dutch report with photos: http://www.limburger.nl/article/20131120/REGIONIEUWS03/131129583/1008/REGIONIEUWS06
