Grounding on the Rhine
The "Minerva", 1260 ts (EU-No.: 04700340) loaded with 934 tons of scrap metal, got stuck on a groyne in the Rhine at river km 379 near Dettenheim (district of Karlsruhe) on June 5, 2019. Probably the failure of a rudder was the reason for the accident. An anchor was deployed which kept the ship outside the fairway. The shipping was therefore not endangered, a blocking unnecessary. After about two hours, the vessel was taken alongside by another barge, turned and taken to a berth in Sondernheim. The water police Karlsruhe launched investigations on the exact cause of the accident.
