Two crew members died on board
Two Russian crew members of the 'Milford', 32 and 58 year old, died in the cargo section of the hopper dredger in the evening of July 3, 2023, when the ship with 14 crew members on board was abeam of Varna, en route from Burgas to Constanta. The ship stopped and started to drift at around 8.30 p.m. LT, then headed for Varna. She was berthed in Varna at around 12.30 a.m. LT on July 4. The cause of the deaths was yet unknown, an investigation was launched. The dredger left the port again on July 6.
Damaged dredger drydocked
The damaged "Vlaanderen 1" was drydocked at the Scheepswerf Reimerswaal in the evening of Mar 13, being assisted by the tugs "Charlie" and "Foxtrot" of Polderman Berging. The "Zeebrugge II" supported the transit with an oil boom which was carried along as a precaution. The damaged port side had been lifted by taking on board additional ballast on starboard side. Collision on the Wester Scheldt
On Mar 10, 2012, the "Vlaanderen 1" was in collision with the "Trina" in the Nauw van Bath on the Wester Scheldt at 4.15 p.m. Tugs of Multraship from Terneuzen and the Unie van Redding- en Sleepdienst rushed to the scene to assist. While the "Trina" remained undamaged and proceeded to Anwerp, the "Vlaanderen 1" suffered some damage. The dredger proceeded to Hansweert. A small amount of oil leaked out, but could be rescovered by two anti pollution vessels. An investigation was launched, and fog may have contributed to the accident.
