Log carrier ran aground
The 'Microstep', loaded with logs, ran aground on a reef in the China Strait, Milne Bay, on May 3, 2022, when transiting the strait in eastern direction. The salvage with the tug 'Pacific Salvor' and a barge from the log pond required partial offloading. On May 8 the ship was refloated and anchored 2,4 miles from the grounding site to receive back the offloaded cargo and undergo inspections and investigations which found no damages to the hull. On May 10 the ship moved into Milne Bay and was anchored off Gurney. While no deteaineable defiencies were identified, the vesssel was detained in Alotau for not reporting the incident to the NMSA and damaging the coral reef.
