Operational pressures caused grounding

Wed Dec 11 16:38:13 CET 2013 Timsen

A navigational error was to blame for the grounding of the "Huelin Dispatch" on its maiden voyage on Sep 24, 2012, between the Channel Islands and the UK, an investigation has found. The "Huelin Dispatch" hit a rock off the coast of Alderney while en route to Southampton. An accident investigation report released on Dec 10, 2013, concluded that insufficient consideration was given to the strong tidal currents on the western side of the island. The error, an investigator found, resulted from operational pressures on the master and owner of the boat, who had been on duty from 3.30 a.m. until the time of the incident 13 hours later.

Repairs of grounding damage took more than one month

Sun Oct 28 15:44:00 CET 2012 Timsen

Afte repairs of over one month length the "Huelin Dispatch" left Falmouth shipyard on Oct 28 and was heading for Southampton, ETA Oct 29, 11 a.m.

Fri Sep 28 17:22:04 CEST 2012 Timsen

While the "Huelin Dispatch" is still in Falmout dry dock 3, for repairs of grounding damage, the "Verity" (IMO: 9229178) was chartered in to cover. However, it was hoped that repairs to the damaged stern would be completed within two weeks.
