Man lost over board in Datteln
In Datteln the 49-year-old German skipper of the "Mi Amigo" was lost over board on Nov 15, 2017. The man probably fell from the ship. At 1 a.m. the barge had passed the large lock in Datteln, after which it was moored at the Dortmund-Ems Canal near Olfen. The experienced skipper made the first voyage from the Europoort in Rotterdam to Hanover jointly with his father on what was to become his new ship. When the ship which was loaded with coal had berthed, the father could not find his son anywhere on board. Police and fire brigade were alerted and searched all night and the following day for the missing man. On Nov 15 at 4:30 p.m., the lock was partially operational again, but the small lock remained blocked until Nov 16. Divers from Dortmund searched the lock, but could not find the missing skipper. The search was then terminated for the time being.
