Trawler caught by underwater obstruction

Tue May 22 13:47:34 CEST 2018 Timsen

The Filey volunteer RNLI Lifeboat crew was called out on May 21, 2018, at 9.30 p.m. after the "Pamela Jill" had asked for assistance in position 54 14 45.2N, 000 00 21.1W, 9,36 nautical miles from Flamborough Head. The Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Filey’s all-weather Mersey Class lifeboat "The Keep Fit Association" to assist the fishing vessel whose gear had snagged in an underwater cable about 10 miles east-north-east of Filey Brigg. Shortly afterwards, the boat Filey ALB stood by the "Pamela Jill" for three hours whilst attempts were made to free the obstruction; the task made more difficult as there was a potential danger of the vessel capsizing or steel cables parting. Shortly after slack water, the crew managed to free their gear and were able to resume fishing. When the vessel broke free from the cable, it lost three dredgers, which could still be on the cable. The Filey ALB returned to station where it was re-carriaged and made ready for service by 2.30 a.m. Report with photo: https://rnli.org/news-and-media/2018/may/22/filey-rnli-stand-by-fishing-vessel
