Ferry suffered faulty valve
Four double trips of the 'Marstal' between Ærøskøbing and Svendborg had to be cancelled on Jan 6, 2020, due to technical problems. Affected were the sailings departing from Ærøskøbing at 5.35 a.m., 8.35 a.m., 11.35 a.m. and 2.35 p.m. A fuel control valve needed to either be adjusted or repaired which meant that there was a risk of light and electricity going off, so the ship could not sail until completion of repairs. A technician was called to fix the error. The ferry was saiing again at 5.35 p.m. The affected passengers were transported aboard the 'Ærøxpressen' in the meantime.
Sailings cancelled due to thruster issue
The "Marstal" had trouble to dock in Ærøskøbing upon ots arrival in port on April 24, 2019, at 10.20 a.m., and the crew decided to cancel the next sailings of the ferry due to the technical problems. The departure from Ærøskøbing at 10.35 a.m. and the return trip from Svendborg at 12.05 p.m. did not take place. Apparently there were problems with one of the thrusters, which gave less power to enter the harbour. The "Marstal" had also canceled a double trip on April 23, and all sailings of the ferry have been canceled on April 30 due to the needed repairs of the hydraulic engine for the bow thruster. It was suspected that there was a contamination in the tank of the hydraulic engine. In any case, the bow thruster did not work, which meant that we the departures had to be cancelled due to the wind in the area. Spare parts were to be delivered in the night of April 25. As the operator did not want to take the ferry out of the schedule during the weekend, the engineers will take the last departure in the night of April 29, and then start work which was expected to last the whole 30th April.
Marstal docked again
In the morning of Oct 14 departures from Svendborg and Aero has been canceled after the "Marstal" was affected by technical problems. The ship had suffered gear trouble. Something with the gasket of one propeller was not in order. It had only returned to Ærøskøbing on Oct 13 after repair of allision damage at the Marstal Shipyard. At 10.50 p.m. the ferry returned to the yard to be docked again.
