Barge allided with bridge
On Feb 8, 2016, at 11.20 a.m. the "Gratias", 566 ts (EU-No.: 03170582), was in allision with the East Port Bridge in Delft on the Rhine-Schie-Canal. The "Gratias" was about to enter the Vliet in the direction of Rijswijk. According to witnesses, the ship was approaching while the bridge was not yet fully opened and could not slow down in time. Due to the impact, the bridge deck came up and damaged a corner. The barge backed off and berthed at a nearby quay. It had suffered only slight bow damage. Experts of the province of South Holland were called to investigate the damage, and the pedestrian bridge had to be closed for the inspections and repairs. It could not be closed any more, and spare parts were not available, so they first had to be manufactured, installed and tested. Ship traffic was not hampered as the bridge was in opened position.
