Tanker suffered mechanical failure
On the morning of Aug 25, 2024, the Piraeus Port Authority was informed by the master of the 'Meteora', enroute from Batumi to Amsterdam, about a control loss due to a mechanical failure about 7.8 nautical miles west of the islet of Patroklos, with 27 crew members on board, without requesting assistance. The tanker finally sailed under its own power to the anchorage of the port of Piraeus, where it was banned from sailing until the presentation of a certificate of class maintenance by the monitoring classification society.
Tug, lifeboat and anti pollution vessel sent to grounded tanker
After the "Meteora" ran aground on July 30 at 7.35 p.m. north of Bozcaada the Turkish Coast Guard immediately sent the tug "Kurtarma 2" and the liefeboat "Kıyı Emniyeti 3". As a precaution also the anti pollution vessel "Tahlisiye II" was dispatched. The ship which has a draught of nine meters had sailed from Agioi Theodoroi Port on July 28 being bound for Poti. Aground off Dardanelles, Aegean sea
Chemical tanker Meteora loaded with 27481 tons of kerosene at around 1930 LT July 30 13 ran aground north of Bozcaada island, Aegean sea, approaching Dardanelles en route from Greece to Poti, Georgia, Black sea. No leak reported. As of morning July 31 vessel seems to be still aground.
