Wounded fisherman medevaced off Brest
On Sep 18, 2019, a crew member of the "Mestre Bobicha" had to be medevaced after the amputation of a finger 117 miles from Brest. The MRCC Griz Nez who mobilized a helicopter that hoisted him and took him to a hospital in Brest for treatment.
Hope for soon release of longliner
The council of Mar, Rosa Quintana, trusted that the Irish Justice will accept and resolve as soon as possible the appeal presented by the shipowner of the "Mestre Bobicha" after it has been seized. If the ship's arrest has taken place, as noted by its owner, for having had two buoys without identification, that should not be considered a serious offense. The Irish naval defense ship 'Lé Samuel Beckett' stopped the 'Mestre Bobicha' 200 miles south of Fastnet Rock for an alleged violation of fishing rules. The longliner was escorted to the port of Castletownbere.
Longliner seized off Fastnet Rock
The "Mestre Bobicha" was detained in Irish waters by the Irish Navy Service on Aug 22, 2019. The patrol boat "Lé Samuel Beckett", detained the longliner approximately 200 nautical miles south of Fastnet Rock, after an alleged breach of fishing regulations. It was being escorted to Castletownbere, County Cork, where it berthed at 6 p.m. and was handed over to An Garda Síochána. The detention was now a garda matter and the nature of the infringement has not been disclosed.
