Wreck of grounded vessel to be removed

The Turkish state environmental department issued a wreck removal permission for the "Mercy God" and appointed the Efekan Shipbreaking Company in İzmir, Aliağa to start the wreck removal operation. The entire operation was expected to be completed start of May 2018. The ship had dragged anchor in bad weather and grounded at Bozcaada on Dec 29, 2014, despite tugs being on scene. Freighter runs aground off Bozcaada island, refloated with help of tugs

General cargo vessel Mercy God dragged anchor and ran aground on southern coast of Bozcaada island, Turkey, south of Dardanelles, Aegean sea. According to AIS and Turkish Maritime Safety Administration, vessel was at anchor since May. The vessel was refloated with the help of the tug "Kurtarma 7" and taken to a safer anchorage.
