Small oil spill during discharge operations

Tue Apr 21 10:13:23 CEST 2020 Timsen

During the unloading of the 'Cap Charles' a loss of oil was registered at the Terminal del Este buoy on April 19, 2020. As soon as an iridescence in the water was noticed, the discharge was stopped and the prefecture personnel on board the tanker was informed. Ancap immediately activated the action protocol, gave notice to the Prefecture and Dinama, and the spill was immediately controlled. It was estimated that the loss was about 50 to 80 liters and came from the hose line. Navy divers and Ancap personnel worked to determine the source of the loss and proceeded with its repair. The adverse weather conditions of the recent week, with strong winds and large waves were estimated to have caused the damage. Due to the small size of the incident, the coasts were not expected to be affected. Prefectural personnel flew over the area and the coast, and in no case was there any presence of hydrocarbons.
