Ship stuck on both Meuse sides
On Nov 13, 2013, the "Mercator" broke lose from its moorings at Liege opposite Dolomies Marche-les-Dames around 6 p.m. The accident happened while the ship was taking a cargo of gravel. Strong currents caused the ship to drift perpendicular to the Meuse until it got stuck on both shores, thus blocking the river. The propeller was feared to have been damaged during the attempts to get the vessel back under control, so the arrival of a tug from Herstal had to be awaited.
