Medevac off Hooksiel

Mon Sep 11 09:26:38 CEST 2017 Timsen

The lifeboat "Vormann Steffens" of the DGzRS station Hooksiel was alerted on Sep 9, 2017, at 7 p.m. by the "Mellum" because a crew member had suffered an extremely bleeding wound at his foot. The injury was so severe that besides the "Vormann Steffens" also the helicopter Christoph 26 of the ADAC was deployed to transfer medical personnel onto the "Mellum". The "Vormann Steffens" was first on scene at the "Mellum", which was about3,5 miles off Schillig roads and transferred two crew members aboard the anti pollution ship. A little later, the emergency physician and paramedics were dropped off on the "Mellum". After the initial treatment, the patient was transferred onto the slifeboat and taken to Hooksiel along with a doctor and paramedics. At around 8:15 p.m., they handed over the patient to an ambulance which was waiting at the port.

Significant damage in yard fire

Wed Jun 08 08:57:50 CEST 2016 Timsen

On June 7, 2016, a fire broke out during welding works in the wheelhouse of the "Mellum" after spilt diesel fuel went alight. The ship was being docked at the Peters Yard in Wewelsfleth since May 23 for repairs and overhauls. Two workers suffered injuries and were hospitalized for smoke gas inhalation.. The blaze in the accomodation block extended over two decks and caused significant damage. Two cabins and the aft of the accomodation block were affected. The yard workers started fire fighting. The volunteer fire rescue of Wewelsfleth was then able to put the fire out within one hour in the afternoon. The police Itzehoe launched an investigation. The damage was around 100000 Euro.
