Grounding on the Volga

The 'Melita', en route to Astrakhan, ran aground on the Volga river in pos. 48 34 60 N, 044 27 22 E, on Sep 20, 2023, at 9 a.m. UTC. The Volgograd Transport Prosecutor's Office organized an inspection of the requirements of the legislation on the safety of navigation.

Collision on the Don

The 'V.F. Tanker 14' was in collision with the cargo m/v 'Melita' on Dec 2, 2019, at 08.42 a.m. while anchoring waiting for the entry into the Kochetovsky lock on the Don river at km 2998.5. The freighter suffered a crack of the girder, the tanker had a hole above the waterline in the aft part of 5 × 6 cm, but there was no oil spill and no danger of environmental pollutions. There were no obstacles to navigation on the Don too, and the cargo was not damaged, no injuries reported. The 'Melita', coming from from Turkmenistan and bound to the Ukraine, was loaded with fertilizer, when she slammed into the 'V.F. Tanker 14' which was enroute from Turkmenistan to Romania with a cargo of diesel fuel.

Russian freighter crossed Ukrainian territory

The Ukrainian Navy has reported that the "Melita"has entered Ukraine's territorial waters on June 5, 2019. Owing to the storm that raged west of the Tarkhankut Peninsula, the ship, which was enroute from Astrakhan to the port of Constanta, was forced to deviate from the recommended route and cross five miles into the territorial waters of the Ukraine. Its crew were questioned according to the protocol. Given the circumstances, and in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the vessel was allowed to proceed toward its destination on the safe route without delay and without any action aimed at seizing and inspecting the vessel or apprehending the crew.
