Melissa ran into disabled barge
On May 27, 2012, the "Melissa" ran into the "Bavarie 53" which was stuck on the left Danube shore at Aichet after having suffered a fire in the engine room. The local fire brigades had been able to extinguish the fire and contained it within the engine room which, however, was gutted. The damage was estimated to be around 300 000 Euro. At 2.10 p.m. the "Melissa" approached coming downstream and was caught by strong currents. The ship ran into the bow of the "Bavaria 53" which herself was stuck on the left Danube shore. Both ships were slightly damaged, the “Melissa” proceeded to Passau for investigations. The fairway was blocked, and the river had to be closed for ship traffic between Deggendorf and Vilshofen.
