Engine failure off Humber

Fri Apr 26 09:30:09 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Meike B", en route from Klaipeda to Howden Dyke in ballast condition, suffered a main engine failure in position 53 42 42 N, 000 38 18 W on April 25, 2019. The crew detected a main engine remote control system malfunction and the vessel was anchored. After an investigation, the Chief Engineer switched the main engine remote control to manual mode. The manual control system of the main engine was tested and found in good condition. On high tide, the Master, in coordination with the pilot, left the anchor position and port safely. He did not detect any grounding at low water. At the time of leaving the port, at the insistence of the pilot, the vessel was escorted by tugs. The main engine and manual remote control were in good condition and run in normal manual mode. The main engine remote control system was fully operational again after a routine maintenance.
