Search for four missing crew members suspended
Four crew members of the 'Meghna Adventure' remained missing in the Mississippi River, the U.S. Coast Guard said on Nov 29. They were reported missing from the bulk carrier on Nov 27 at around 11 p.m. after they did not arrive for muster, a standard safety drill. About 494 square miles of the river was searched near Belle Chasse over 12 hours. The search was suspended about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Four crew members missing from bulk carrier
In a desperate race against time, the US Coast Guard (USCG) along with local authorities was scouring the waters of the Mississippi River near Belle Chasse, Louisiana, on Nov 27, 2023, searching for four missing crew members of the 'Meghna Adventure'. The men have been missing for over 15 hours, sparking concerns for their safety. The missing individuals, all hailing from Bangladesh, ranged in age between 25 and 47 years. The alarm was raised when these crew members failed to appear for a muster, a standard safety drill held aboard their vessel. The absence of these seafarers from the routine procedure hinted at an unusual situation, leading to the initiation of the search operation. The USCG has deployed an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a small boat crew in the quest for the missing seafarers. The search operation has been ongoing since around 11 p.m., when the Coast Guard was alerted about the situation.
