Ferry repair completed

Sat Jan 17 19:22:13 CET 2015 Timsen

The "Megen" was back in service on Jan 17 at 4 p.m. The masts and cables of the ferry had suffered hefty damage when the barge "Enterprise" ran into it on Jan 15. On Jan 16 the damage had been examined by experts. Human error of the ferry master who had not noticed the "Enterprise" was thought to have been the cause of the accident which cut through the 300-meter-long cable. Also one side of the ferry suffered damage. Dutch report with photo and video: http://www.omroepbrabant.nl/?news/223109732/Veerpont+Megen+sinds+zaterdagmiddag+4+uur+weer+in+de+vaart+.aspx

Cargo ship slammed into chain ferry

Fri Jan 16 09:10:42 CET 2015 Timsen

The "Enterprise" with a cargo of sand was in collision with the chain ferry "Megen", which was connecting Megen and Appeltern at the Meuse River, on Jan 15, 2015, around 8 p.m. The chains which held the ferry broke due to the impact. The fire brigade launched a search for the chains. The ferry could reach the quay of Megen with its engine. It remained out of service until investigations have been carried out. The workboat "Lithoijen" was sent to carry out repairs. Also divers from Den Bosch and the boat of the fire brigade Oss initially attended.
