New role for old ferry
The company J & L Shipping AB has bought the "Odin Sydfyen" which had been idle in Faaborg since 2014 after having served as a reserve ferry between Bojden and Fynshav. The ferry was taken over in Assens where she had arrived on MAr 8, 2015, and will be inserted on the route between Langnas and the Åland Islands to the islands Overo and Snäckö.
Storm pushed ferry aground
On Jan 4, 2012, at 9 p.m. the "Odin Sydfyen" ran aground when entering the port of Tars coming from Spodsbjerg. Pushed by storm gusts of 16 m/sec from SW the ship ended up on a sandbar directly off the harbour. Around 10.30 p.m. the ferry succeeded to get free with own power after pumping out ballast water. The accident happened when the "Odin Sydfyen" was backing into the port with 9 passengers and 6 crew members on board. The ferry was surveyed by divers and expected to be back in operation again in the morning of Jan 5 at 9.15 a.m. Danish report with photo: http://folketidende.dk/nyt-uheld-tars-ruten-faerge-pa-grund
Ferry service temporary suspended after engine failure
Ón Dec 10, 2011, the "Odin Sydfyen" suffered engine damage and had to be sent to a shipyard in Svendborg for repairs the same day. The Spodsbjerg - Tars crossing in the morning had to be cancelled.
