Ferry under tow to Tripoli

Wed Jun 22 13:38:35 CEST 2022 Timsen

The decommissioned 'Giuseppe Sa' was towed out of the port of Piombino after a lengthy lay up on June 21, 2022, at 4.20 p.m. by the tug 'Christos XXVII' (IMO: IMO:7729710). The convoy was headed to Tripoli with an ETA as of July 4.

Fire on ferry off Olbia

Sun May 14 19:14:30 CEST 2017 Timsen

On May 14, 2017, at 1.30 a.m. a fire broke out aboard the "Giuseppe SA" 50 miles off Olbia, Sardinia, while the ship was underway from Piombiono with 113 persons, among them 81 passengers and 31 crew members aon board. One of the trucks burst into flames. The master raised alarm, and the CP 330 of the Maddalena Port Captainn was sent to the site. Also the "Masccalzone Scatenato" and the ferries "Moby Wonder" and "Moby Aki" responded as well as a helicopter of the Coastguard and a boat from Civitavecchia. The crew managed to suppress the fire with CO2 after sealing the deck and prevented it from spreading. At 3.02 a.m. the "CP 306" intercepted the ferry and escorted it to Olbia where it was moored at berth 8 at the Isola Bianca Pier. All passengers were safely disembarked, no injures reported. Ambulances, tugs and shore firefighting engines were on standby to render assistance. The fire was finally put out, and the passengers and truck drivers could land with their vehicles. The fire on deck 3 was caused by a short circuit in a trailer. While damage remained limited, another ferry took over the service from Olbia to Piombino.
