Barge threatened to sink on the Waal
The "Mayera", 1521 ts (EU-No.: 04029070), enroute from Voerde to Brussels being loaded with a cargo of grain, suffered water ingress on the Waal near Nijmegen on Dec 5, 2018. The ship was still able to reach the calamity pier in Weurt at 1.45 p.m., where the fire brigade started an attempt to keep it afloat. There was at least half a meter of water in the engine room. The fire brigade tries to drain the water and find the leak. There is at least half a meter of water in the engine room. It was still unclear whether the ship was too heavy loaded. A salvage company was on its way to take over from the fire brigade. In the evening, the patrol boat "RWS 44" (MMSI: 244050878), and the SAR vessel "Batoura" (MMSI: 244710429) were on site.
