Propulsion loss near Vancouver Island

Fri Oct 28 09:53:00 CEST 2011 Timsen

The Coast Guard and Washington Department of Ecology were monitoring the partially disabled "Horizon Tacoma" near Vancouver Island, B.C., on Oct 27, 2011. The container ship was enroute Anchorage, when it lost propulsion approximately 11 miles west of Vancouver Island. The vessel anchored 11 miles offshore and effected temporary repairs, and then headed for the Puget Sound. The tugs "Garth Foss" from Port Angeles and "Jeffrey Foss" from Neah Bay were sent to provide assistance into Puget Sound. Coast Guard vessel inspectors and investigators from Sector Puget Sound were to board the "Horizon Tacoma" to determine the cause of the loss of propulsion.
