Medevac off Port Townsend
A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a crewmember aboard the "Horizon Tacoma" near Port Townsend on June 6, 2015. The master of the ship contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound, in Seattle, requesting assistance for a 72-year-old crewmember reportedly suffering chest pains. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles launched at 12:25 p.m. and completed hoist operations at 12:40 p.m. The man was transported to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Propulsion loss near Vancouver Island
The Coast Guard and Washington Department of Ecology were monitoring the partially disabled "Horizon Tacoma" near Vancouver Island, B.C., on Oct 27, 2011. The container ship was enroute Anchorage, when it lost propulsion approximately 11 miles west of Vancouver Island. The vessel anchored 11 miles offshore and effected temporary repairs, and then headed for the Puget Sound. The tugs "Garth Foss" from Port Angeles and "Jeffrey Foss" from Neah Bay were sent to provide assistance into Puget Sound. Coast Guard vessel inspectors and investigators from Sector Puget Sound were to board the "Horizon Tacoma" to determine the cause of the loss of propulsion.
