Tanker got stuck on Danube

The "Marion" ran aground on the Danube at km 2258,7 sailing downstram towards Vilshofen on Aug 17 at 2.45 a.m. The ship got stuck on a gravel bar when it was underway from Regensburg to Passau due to a navigational mistake in dense fog. The river authority Deggendorf and the water police was on scene in the early morning hours. The unloaded ship had got stuck outside the fairway and did not affect passing traffic. Several attempts to refloat the casualty with the pusher boat "Uhu" were in vain due to the low tide of the river which was only 2 metres at Hofkirchen.
