Repairs have commenced
Repairs of the grounding damage of the "Nearchos" have commenced at Ampelakia under the supervision of the ownerÄs technical superintendent. The vessel remained stationary at the shipyard pier in Perama by Dec 16. It left Ampelaika after repairs on Jan 21, 2019, at 2.15 p.m. and headed to Piraeus where she berthed at 3.15 p.m.
Ferry refloated
With the help of the salvors of MED Tugs and the tugs "Christos XXXVII" and "Vernicos Sifnos", the "Nearchos", which had been stranded for 16 days in the sea area east of the island of Nea Kameni at Santorini, was refloated on Nov 11 after repairs were made to begin the process. The ship with 13 crew members on board was held in pos. 36° 20.45' N 025° 24.13' E between Akrotiri and Vlychada island off Thira and expected to be re-inspected by the attending classification society before getting the green light to enter the port of Santorini. It was pulled to Ampelaika, and on Nov 13 at 8.40 a.m. it was moored off the port. The ferry was taken to the Spanopoulos New Hellenic Shipyard in Perama (Salamis) at noon. Salvage work going on
The efforts for the salvage of the "Nearchos" from the shallows of Nea Kameni by Med Tugs were in progress. The tug "Vernicos Sifnos" with the assistance of divers has tried to pull the ferry, but there was no success until Nov 5. The 90 tons fuel has been drained, and the five trucks have been removed from the ship by a crane barge. Weather conditions were still good.
