Disabled tanker blocked the Weser
On Jan 24, 2015, at 3.45 p.m. the "Maria Deymann" suffered an engine failure on the Weser at river km 274,2 underneath of Nienburg in the Balge-Community. The ship which was loaded with 1100 tons oil could be emergency anchored near the Marina Mehlbergen with both bow anchors. But as the danger remained that the barge could be pushed against stones below the water the traffic control informed the water and shipping authority Nienburg. After another barge tried in vain to take the casualty in tow, the work boat "Stolzenau" (MMSI: 211516780) and the pusher boat "Büffel" (MMSI: 21102208) were dispatched from their moorings north of Verden, which reached the tanker on Jan 25 around noon. They connected to the ship and pushed it to a wharf in Nienburg, where it was safely moored. Weser traffic in the affected region was completely barred during the transit.
