Maran gas carrier first to deliver US LNG cargo to a port in China
Maran Gas Apollonia, the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker to transit the expanded Panama Canal last month, has become the first to arrive in China with a cargo of US LNG. The vessel, which is chartered to Shell, left Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass LNG facility in Louisiana approximately four weeks ago and went through the Canal’s expensive new locks on July 26. It arrived at the port of Yantian in Shenzhen near Hong Kong on Monday. China, Japan and South Korea are prime target markets for US LNG exporters and the Canal opens up the possibility of faster, more cost-effective journeys. US LNG exports from the lower 48 states began in February. http://splash247.com/maran-gas-carrier-first-deliver-us-lng-cargo-port-china/
First U.S. LNG shipment goes to China as Panama Canal opens markets
The first liquefied natural gas vessel from the lower 48 U.S. states is on its way to China, according to a Reuters interactive map on Friday, the latest sign that the expanded Panama Canal is allowing U.S. exports to reach the world’s top LNG buyers in Asia. Royal Dutch Shell’s (RDSa.L) Maran Gas Apollonia loaded up with gas at Cheniere Energy Inc’s (LNG.A) Sabine Pass LNG export plant in Louisiana, the map showed. It passed through the canal earlier this week and was moving northwest up the west coast of Mexico on Friday afternoon. Shell does not disclose the destination of its vessels, company spokesman Ray Fisher said. LNG experts at energy data provider Genscape confirmed the ship’s destination was China, but said that could change.
First U.S. LNG shipment to cross expanded Panama Canal
The United States will ship its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo through an expanded Panama Canal next week. The waterway shaves distances between export plants dotted along the Gulf of Mexico and Asia to 9,000 miles from 16,000, allowing U.S. producers to better compete in one of the world's biggest gas consuming markets. The size of most LNG tankers had previously prevented them from squeezing through, forcing them to sail around South America instead. Royal Dutch Shell's Maran Gas Apollonia tanker loaded up at Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass LNG export plant in Louisiana and will arrive at the Panama Canal on July 25, according to Kpler LNG, a shipping analysis firm. Shipping data shows the vessel to be heading in the direction of Panama. Shell owns the entire output of Sabine Pass's first production line. A day later BP Plc's British Merchant will begin passing through the Panama Canal also carrying cargo from the United States to Manzanillo on Mexico's Pacific coast, Kpler LNG said. It is not known where in the Pacific Shell's vessel will sail.
