MAR INST DE RUYTER
The Dutch naval vessel HNLMS De Ruyter arrived in its homeport of Den Helder on Saturday after taking part in the anti-piracy operation Ocean Shield off the Somali coast. The frigate was welcomed by Defence Minister Hans Hillen and the crew’s families. The De Ruyter had been operational off the Somali coast since the end of November. The frigate stopped more than 20 suspicious vessels, fended off several pirate attacks and accompanied a number of transports. The De Ruyter was relieved by HNLMS Tromp. The De Ruyter returned to port later than originally planned because the Tromp was delayed due to evacuation operations off the Libyan coast.
