Fishing vessel disabled after engine room fire
The "Mar da Galega" issued s distress signal on Nov 30, 2015, at 08.43 a.m. due to a fire in the engine room. The vessel with a crew of six, all Spanish except the owner, on board was fishing 15 miles NE of Nazaré. Two fishing vessels, the tug "Milo" and the lifeboat "Vigilante" rushed to help. The engine room could be sealed off and the fire fighting system was switched on, but the fire was not extinguished at 1.30 p.m. Four crew members were transferred to the rescue vessels, two remained on board. The ship was taken in tow to Peniche where she arrived at 7.15 p.m. and was berthed and ventilated one hour later. Also the "Vigilante" of the Maritime Police in Peniche, an RIB from Nazaré and the corvette "Jacinto Cândido" with its crew of 70 and the f/v "Fortuna do Mar" had attended.
