Ship repaired and renamed
Repairs to the 'Riza Sonay' have been completed, along with sea trial and performance tests, as of Nov 17, 2019. A new set of trading certificates was issued by the attending classification society and the flag state authority. Subsequently, the vessel was granted departure permission by the Harbour Master the same day. The ship, which since has been renamed 'Marian M' and registered in Togo, left Altinova at4.30 p.m. and headed to Marmara Saraylar where it dropped anchor in pos. 40° 40.04' N 027° 39.76 E on Nov 23 at 10 p.m.
Engine failure west of Mlta
The "Riza Sonay", en route from Sousse to Nikolayev, suffered an engine failure west of Malta in position 35 50 30 N, 13 03 12 E, on May 27, 2019. Repairs could not be carried out by the crew and the Italian tug "Paraggi" (IMO: 9802968) was mobilized from Augusta on May 28 to tow the vessel to the Tuzla shipyard area. The towage operation commenced on May 29. The "Riza Sonay" arrived at Tuzla anchorag in the morning of June 4. Upon completion of formalities, the vessel berthed at the shipyard pier the same day. A detailed damage survey was carried out by the class surveyor along with owner's representative. Permanent repair works have been commenced as per the class surveyor's further recommendations.
