Predecessor of Makran sank after fire

A few months after the Iranian Navy introduced the bunker tanker 'Makran', its predecessor 'Iris Charg', 33544 dwt (IMO: 7500633), the largest warship in the Iranian Navy caught fire and later sank on June 1, 2021, in the Gulf of Oman under unclear circumstances. The blaze began around 2:25 a.m., and efforts by the crew to compbat the fire failed. The 'Iris Kharg', which was had been employed to resupply other ships in the fleet at sea and conduct training exercises, sank stern first. 400 sailors and trainee cadets on board abandoned the vessel, with 33 suffering injuries, before the blazing ship sank near the port of Jask in the Gulf of Oman.
