Both ships left accident site on Rhine after collision
After the "Maintal", 2731 ts (EU-No.: 04806300) which, coming from Spay, had been in a head-on-collision with the "Allegro", 2433 ts (EU-No.: 02322618) loaded with 1.500 tons soy meal, on Jan 28 at 6.30 a.m. on the Rhine at river km 718 near Dormagen-Zons, both ships were allowed to leave the accident site in the run of the day despite their damages. The "Maintal" berthed in the port canal of Duisburg at 8.30 p.m., the "Allegro" berthed in Colonia at 4 p.m. In order to prevent the 2.000 tons gas oil which had leaked out of the bow of the “Maintal’ to the Dusseldorf ports, several entrances were closed by the fire department with oil booms. Rescue forces from the Rhien-municitality Neuss, the Mettmann County, Düsseldorf and Cologne, as well as the fire brigade of the Chempark plant and untis of the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) in Dormagen were mobilized to Zons. The fire brigade Dusseldorf was busy for hours ashore and on the water. Around 50 forces closed off the access roads to the Media Port, the Löricke port, the restaurant ships at the Rober-Lehr-Shore, the Volmerswerth port and the marina at the Rotterdamer St. The oil barriers were to be retrieved and disposed of within the next few days in coordination with the environmental office of the state capital. No oil barriers could be laid out on the Rhine due to the strong currents. In the early afternoon, the oil spill had moved past the Robert-Lehr-Shore and extended downstream to the north of Dusseldorf. The "Maintal" berthed at the Erlenbacher Shipyard in Erlenbach for repairs on Feb 6. The "Allegro" was berthed in Zwijndrecht since Feb 8. Tank barge slammed into marina
On July 19, 2016, at 7.45 p.m. the "Maintal", 2731 ts (EU-No.: 04806300), short after having sailed from the port of Gustavsburg, suffered a failure of the bow thruster downbound on the Rhine. Underneath the oil port the ship veered off course and allided with the piers of the SCM Marina at the right river shore. The tanker dropped anchor in the fairway and was arrested by the crew of the water police Wiesbaden. This was lifted on July 20 at 00.30 a.m. by the shipping authority Bingen after an inspector of the owner company Maintal Schifffahrtsgesellschaft had found that the rudder and the main engine were working properly. For this purpose the ship had carried out a trial escorted by a boat of the water police. The tanker was allowed to continue the voyage to Gelsenkirchen where the bow thruster was to be investigated.
