Tanker rescued crew of sailing yacht

Thu May 04 12:23:46 CEST 2023 Timsen

The 'Maingas', en route from Antwerp to Le Havre, and the SAR helicopter Helimer 402 from Alvedro, assisted the three members of a French family who sent a distress call from a sailboat about 140 kilometers northwest of A Coruña on May 3, 2023. A teenager was injured in the head and in the hand in a fall. The first radio beacon alarm was emitted around 6 a.m. and the helicopter "went to the area. There he found that the ship was crewed by a man of French nationality and his two teenage daughters, one of whom had suffered an accident, but the girl was afraid of being transferred and did not want to leave the sailboat- Later they reactivated the radio beacon due to a problem with the rudder. Te 'Maingas' recovered the three, and the yact was left adrift at around 3:24 p.m. At approximately 4:10 p.m. the family again asked to be evacuated, so the Helimer came again, picked them up from the tanker and brought them to A Coruña. The injured girl was picked up by an ambulance at 6:30 p.m., which then transferred her to the hospital. The tanker continued on its voyage with an ETA as of May 8.
