Boxship grounded in Suez Canal
On July 5, 2016, at 3.30 p.m. the "Maersk Shams", enroute from Algericas to Aqaba, ran aground at km mark 133 in the southern part of the Suez Canal, while proceeding in a southbound convoy. The ship was the 13th of 33 vessels and some of the other vessels in the convoy have been detained. At 5 p.m. tugs were at the grounding site, attempting to refloat the vesselwhich succeeded at 9 p.m. The boxship resumed the transit and was brought to an anchorage at Suez anchorage around midnight.
