Maersk ship attacked off Nigeria
The 'Maersk Cadiz' was attacked by an unknown number of pirates in the morning of Dec 19, 2020, while the ship was transiting the Gulf of Guinea at a position 118 nautical miles southwest of Bonny Island. The pirates managed to penetrate the container ship at 2.30 p.m. local time, while the ship was on its way from Tema to Kribi. In the morning a ship from the Nigerian fleet reached the 'Maersk Cadiz'. All 21 crew have been confirmed as safe, and the vessel has been secured and resumed sailing at around 10,15 a.m. UTC, escorted by the security boat. On Dec 21 the ship was anchored in pos. 02° 43.62' N 009° 44.57' E.
