Reefer West at 0358 LT Dec 10 issued distress signal in position 53 35N 163 22E – 195 nm NE of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, 130 nm SW of Komandor Islands, NW Pacific. Vessel proceeding in severe storm, steering gear is failing from time to time, but there is no water ingress, vessel keeps course along the waves direction. Two fishing vessels and boxship ZIM Chicago steaming to assist, two salvage vessels left Petropavlovsk at 0500 Dec 10. nearest is boxship ZIM Chicago, ETA 1000 Dec 10. Reefer is en route from coastal town Tilichiki to Petropavlovsk, crew 10. Wind NW 20-25 meters/sec, sea 6 meters, air temperature plus 2 deg C, no danger of icing.
