Ferry grounded due to mechanical trouble
Ferry service to Peaks Island was interrupted in the afternoon of Jan 21, 2013, because of a mechanical failure of the "Machigonne II". Lionel Plante Associates provided a supplemental barge service while the ferry was being repaired. The barge is roughly the same size as the car ferry, which holds 12 vehicles. Passenger service to Peaks Island will still run through the Commercial Street terminal. Peaks Island departures will take place from the Forest City Landing, while Portland departures will take place from East End Beach. Trips may be affected into Jan 22 afternoon. A replacement part for the electrical switch which malfunctioned needed to be ordered and should be delivered by 10 a.m. on Jan 22. Services offered are on Jan 21 5 p.m. from Peaks Island and 5:30 p.m. from Portland's East End Beach on Jan 21 and 7:15 a.m. from Peaks Island and 7:45 a.m. from Portland's East End Beach on Jan 22.
