Minesweeper berthed at Navantia
In the evening of Sep 3 the "Turia" was safely pulled into the port of Cartagena by the SAR ship "Mastelero" of Salvamento Marítimo. The minesweeper which was stabilized by air cushions which had been fixed around the hull was berthed at the facilities of Navantia around midnight. Minesweeper refloated and towed to Cartagena
The SAR tug "Mastelero" on Sep 3 towed the "Turia" towards Cartagena after the minesweeper was successfully refloated. During the past few days Salvamento Marítimo collaborated with the Spanish Navy with the salvage of the ship with various units and special operation personnel. Towage towards the naval base in Cartagena began at 4 p.m. in favourable weather conditions which supported the salvage work. Extraction of fuel continued
Work continued to recover the fuel of the "Turia" off the coast of La Manga an was on track to finish after having completed the transfer of the tanks of the starboard side. The Navy hoped to make the decision on the procedure of the salvage to follow on Aug 30. An anti-pollution barrier has been deployed around the ship. An improvement of the wind and sea conditions had allowed to start the work and investigation of the hull by divers.
