Shipping company paid compensation for reef damage
The shipping company of the "Lyric Poet" was ordered to pay compensation after the vessel damaged coral reefs in the waters off Bangka Belitung when it ran aground on March 24, 2017. The shipping company paid the amount of about $1.180 million in April 2019.
Bulkcarrier refloated after 46 days aground
The "Lyric Poet" has been refloated in the night of May 9, and on May 10, the bulkcarrier was under way at full speed, bound for Machong, Guangzhou. The vessel had run aground 50 miles north of Pulau Belitung Island on March 24, and the salvage lasted for 46 days.
Bulkcarrier aground off Indonesia
The "Lyric Poet" ran hard aground on March 24, 2017, in position 01 44S 107 27E, in the South China Sea, about 50 miles north of the island Pulau Belitung at Tanjung Pandan in international waters. The loaded vessel was en route from Albany (Australia), where she had sailed on March 15, to Machong in China, ETA March 30.
