Buoy layer recovered crashed aircraft
On Apr 2, 2014, the "Lütjeoog" recovered the wreck of a Cessna aircraft which had crashed south of Norderney in dense fog. The pilot, a 63 year old man from the island, was coming from the airport Emden. At 11.25 a.m. the lifeboat "Bernhard Gruben" received a distress signal, and a search was launched. Also the lifeboats "Elli Hoffmann-Röser" of the station Baltrum and the "Cassen Knigge" of the Station Norddeich, an SAR-helicopter of the German Navy, the rescue helicopter 2Christoph 26" from Sanderbusch were dispatched. The "Bernhard Gruben" managed to locate the origin of the signal in the wetlands. Its small boat "Johann Fidi" was launched which could reach the crash site near Norderney l/h. Some wreckage emerged from the shallow water. The pilot could only be recovered dead. Also the fire rescue Emden and Wilhelmshaven, police and divers were on scene.
