Medevac off Port of Rivière des Galets

Wed Jan 11 20:55:29 CET 2017 Timsen

In the afternoon of Jan 11, 2017, the rescuers of the SNSM station Saint-Gilles-Les-Bains were alerted to the "Corviglia" to carry out the medical evacuation of a Ukrainian seafarer suffering aboard the ship. He was taken to the Port of Rivière des Galets.

Ship released after investigation of grounding

Fri Apr 05 10:30:09 CEST 2013 Timsen

The “Corviglia,” with a barge and small boat nearby, waited near Kalama on Apr 1 morning after getting stuck aground near Rainier the previous day. The ship was bound for China when it ran aground on Mar 31, 2013, just before 5 p.m. The ship had received a load of soybeans at the Port of Longview and was waiting for a river pilot to guide it out to sea. The tide went out from under the ship while it was waiting and the vessel got stuck in the riverbed. When the tide came back in around 10 p.m. the ship was able to refloat. Coast Guard vessels did not have to be dispatched, but the state department of emergency management was notified. The Coast Guard directed the ship to find a safer moorage and then wait for a mandatory hull inspection to be sure it hadn’t been damaged. The ship moored overnight near Kalama. As of Apr 1 afternoon the Coast Guard still was waiting on the results of the hull inspection before allowing the ship to embark. The ship finally sailed from Longview on Apr 2 at noon.
