Engine damage disabled container ship on the Elbe

Thu Jul 26 12:40:09 CEST 2012 Timsen

Enroute Hamburg - Rotterdam the "London Express" suffered an engine failure in the evening of July 23, 2012, on the Monta Elbe between Teufelsbrück and Blankenesedue to a defect regarding the lubrication which caused a friction. The alarm was raised around 9 p.m. off Blankenese. The crew responded immediately and reduced the speed. Three tugs towed the "London Express" to Finkenwerder where it was moored at the poles. From there the ship was taken to the Burchard Quay for repairs on July 24.
