Wreck removal off Mykonos
Since April 5 the removal of the wreckage of the sunken "Little Seyma" was underway with a sheerleg which had been called in from Tragansassi. Due to the insufficient capacity of the salvage gear, the wreck was pulled out of the water piecewise which took a few weeks. https://www.protothema.gr/greece/article/776717/epiheirisi-apomakrunsis-tou-ploiou-pou-eihe-nauagisei-sti-mukono/ https://www.naxospress.gr/arthro/koinonia/mykonos-dialyoyn-stin-thalassa-nayagio-toy-little-seyma
Part of cargo still on board
The "Little Seyma" remained aground at Dragonisi. The tanks have been emptied but part of the cargo was still remaining on board. The Greek authorities were trying to remove the vessel at the soonest possible date. It remained, however, unknown when this would take place.
Cargo spill off Myconos prompts insurance queries
A minor cargo spill from the "Little Seyma" off the coast of Myconos before Christmas has prompted the Greek government to explore the obligations of shipowners and insurance companies in such incidents. the vesselhad been en route to Cyprus’s Famagusta port from Russia with a load of 2,700 tons of animal feed on Dec 22, 2018, when it ran aground off the islet of Tragonissi near Myconos in the Aegean Sea, leaking some of its cargo. On learning about the incident, the vessel’s insurer informed the Shipping Ministry that it had not been paid the insurance and that the vessel was thus not covered for the damages it caused. The insurer ultimately agreed to cover the damage on a voluntary basis, but not without challenging a proposal by the head of Greece’s state port authority for vessels that cannot prove they have paid their insurance being prevented from sailing.
