Repairs of storm damage completed

Tue Jul 04 10:41:53 CEST 2017 Timsen

Repairs of the "Lisa von Lübeck“ in Svendborg have been completed on July 1. The ship started the return voyage to Lübeck at 10.30 a.m., arriving there on July 2 at 9.30 a.m. The cog had been drydocked in Svendborg after the anchor had damaged the hydraulic pipes of the bow thruster during an emergency anchoring manoever in the Elbe estuary in stormy weather two weeks ago. After the return to Lübeck divers had carried out an underwater survey which showed that the repairs could only be carried out in drydock.

Storm damage forced cog to abort trip to medieval meeting - wind gust turned cog 180 degrees

Tue Jun 13 20:28:03 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "Lisa von Lübeck" had to abort the voyage from Lübeck to Kampen in the evening of June 12, 2017, in the Elbe off Brunsbüttel estuary. In a storm on the North Sea the anchor broke, and the anchor shaft was destroyed too. The cog returned to Brunsbüttel for surveys. The ship had started the trip jointly with the cog "Wissemara“ from Poel on June 11. After the stop in Brunsbüttel the "Lisa von Lübeck" was forced to return to its homeport. When entering the lock of the Kiel Canal in Kiel-Holtenau, the ship was caught by a wind gust and turned around 180 degrees. It had to berth the other way round and was forced to leave the lock stern first. The "Wissemara“ meanwhile was stuck in Cuxhaven waiting for the wind to abate.
