Cargo ship in port, two containers recovered
The "Leonie P" entered the port of Rotterdam on Dec 10 at 7.30 p.m., assisted by the "Multratug 31". The Panama flagged salvage ship "Friendship" (IMO: 7904827) from Terschelling, contracted by the insurance company, recovered two of the boxes on Dec 10. They did not sink because they were empty. 10 containers had been located by an aircrat of the Dutch Coastguard in the sea. Container ship lost cargo off Terschelling
Enroute from Bremerhaven, where she had sailed on Dec 8 2017, at 6 p.m., to Rotterdam the "Leonie P" lost 24 containers in the night hours in the Northsea, 20 miles above Ameland and Terschelling. There were no hazmat goods in the lost containers, some of them were empty. The Dutch Coast Guard reported that the containers were filled with machine parts and home-, garden- and kitchen equipment. Due to the wind direction and the waves, it seemed that the containers would wash ashore on Schiermonnikoog or the island of Borkum. Some containers already sank. On Dec 9 at 1.30 p.m. the ship entered Europort Rotterdam and berthed at the APMT Maasvlakte II at 3.30 p.m. Locals were warned, the police asked to contact the authorities when stumbling on beached or drifting containers.
