Engine failure in Kiel Canal

Tue Jun 20 13:44:26 CEST 2017 Timsen

On June 20, 2017, the "Conception Light" suffered engine failure on its transit of the Kiel Canal, coming from Kotka, off the Navy Pilings in Brunsbüttel. The bulkcarrier threatened to slam into the "Hav Marlin" which was just passing the ship. But the bulkcarrier could be stopped in time by dropping borth anchors. The tug "Bugsier 18" wwas just about to assist the "Chem Altamira" to the lock. After haveing released the tanker, the tug assisted in recovering the anchor. After half an hour the engine could be started again, and the bulkcarrier was allowed to enter the lock with tug assistance. At 1 p.m. the "Conception Light" left Brunsbüttel towards the Northsea, heading for Huelva, ETA June 25.
